Trait vs. Great Man Theory of Leadership
The great man theory and trait theory of leadership focus on leaders’ characteristics as central to effective leadership. The great man theory suggests that leadership qualities are innate, while the trait theory posits that specific skills can be developed to become a successful leader. Both theories overlook situational factors and followers’ needs. However, trait theory is more applicable for social work practitioners, as it emphasizes the development of key qualities like self-confidence and sociability, enhancing the ability to meet clients’ needs.
