Sociological Theories of Education
Sociology provides three key perspectives on education: functionalism, conflict theory, and symbolic interactionism. Functionalism views education as a means to achieve societal stability, conflict theory highlights its role in perpetuating inequality, and interactionism examines social interactions within schools. While each offers valuable insights, functionalism provides the most comprehensive framework, integrating aspects of the other theories. This perspective is particularly useful in analyzing immigrant education, emphasizing both societal functions and areas for reform.
