Loss of Faith in Night by Elie Wiesel

This paper explores the theme of faith in Elie Wiesel’s Night, focusing on Eliezer’s spiritual journey during the Holocaust. Initially devout, Eliezer’s belief in a good and omnipotent God is shaken by the horrors he witnesses. Yet, even as he accuses God and feels abandoned, glimpses of faith persist. Drawing parallels with the biblical figure Job, the essay reveals how suffering deepens spiritual struggle and how Night suggests that from the darkest despair, a renewed, though altered, understanding of God may emerge.
